Long Answer: We probably need to spend more time thinking about this. It's complicated.
We were definitely created on purpose at first as imaginary friends to help cope with childhood trauma. But as time has went on it's began to feel as if people would appear or show up without being created. It's really thrown a wrench in things but it's hard to find an accurate label for "imaginary friends who just show up and introduce themselves" /silly

We tend to share memories and knowledge. There are some exceptions to this, though - some people (especially fictional characters) have memories of their "source" world.
Sometimes we need to inform members who have not been present what happened while they were gone.
